> Please take note of this very important list: > Avisoft Bioacoustics - Microphone Input Noise Comparison http://www.aviso= ft.com/recordertests.htm There are two question going in this thread - the best kit and the best settings. the problem with comparison tests is that they only show one setup, in this case a 150ohm input resistive impedance. The actual impedance of a mic can vary from a few ohms to a few Kohms and this can swing the overall signal/noise levels quite widely. For optimum settings on a particular rig, in a particular location, the only answer comes from a experimental set of levels by judging using ears. The other factor is what type of system noise is most annoying. In a windy= woodland or near moving water, LF noise gets well drowned but the hiss leve= l sings through. On treeless and windless locations LF noise can also be disturbing, so it is best to know how your rig settings respond by listening. David Brinicombe |
