hello Thomas,=0D

I have a LS-12 that I found to be very noisy no matter what settings I chos=
e. I gave up trying to use the microphone input. It'll still function quite=
well from the line input if you use an external preamp but that's an extra=
gadget to buy and to carry.=0D

I'm sorry to inform you that Olympus really dropped the ball with that seri=
es of recorders. It's not just the noise issue. Even when it's switched off=
, a pair of fully charged batteries will go completely flat in the LS-12 wi=
thin 2 weeks. That means re setting the date, time and preferences almost e=
very time I want to use it.=0D

Olympus gained a good reputation with the previous series ( LS-10, LS-5, LS=
-11 - the curvy looking ones ) but they followed up with something dreadfu=
lly inferior with the LS-12 ( and probably the LS-14 - but I haven't tried=
 that one ).=0D
