Thanks so much for you input:-=0D

=E2=80=9CTo answer your question, enabling SN100 will produce the lowest n=
oise recordings at the expense of disabling the limiter - so set the gain l=
evel wisely.=E2=80=9D=0D

My recordings are of quiet ambient sounds so, apart from thunder and the i=
rritating F15's etc from nearby USAF & RAF bases (such are the joys of livi=
ng in a rural location), the limiter is of little use.=0D

I'll try the empirical test with/without this s/n 100db feature but my ins=
tinct is to leave it off unless it makes an appreciable difference to my ea=
rs. =0D

I agree that as an amateur the DSD feature is likely to be of little use t=
o me. I'm not worried about the 3.5mm jack input as portability in the fiel=
d is important and the Sony is fairly compact. I carry too much photographi=
c gear as it is! Must try your Brinibox design soon.=0D

=E2=80=9Cmy comment: The technicalities of this are way beyond me, but I w=
ould be suspicious of any recorder function that claims to reduce noise. I=
f you need to remove noise, do that later using computer software. Just my=
 2 cents worth :-)=E2=80=9D=0D

I tend to agree Vicki, in fact I try to avoid much post-processing apart f=
rom occasional low pass filtering for traffic noise etc. =0D

=0D
Also a big thank you for your excellent website, I have been inspired and =
learnt a lot from it and the little diy Sass-lite style rig is producing so=
me amazing results. =0D
 =0D
=0D
One further question - I'm currently setting the rig on the ground rather =
than on a tripod (portability again) the results sound fine to me - might t=
he stereo image be better setting the rig at =E2=80=99ear=E2=80=99 level?=
