A boundary mic such as the muriemic vs a soundfield setup is like comparing=
a binaural head to a ms mic the two are very different. Curt and Rob have =
been using boundary rigs for quite a while with very good results. Vikki P =
has also used the cheap
omni capsules in a sass like array made from various materials. Such record=
ing rigs
may be built for less than 50 dollars. If the interest is stereo two or eve=
n four
omnis placed coincident and processed as a dipole mic will produce a very g=
ood stereo image. A couple of the same omni's in an aluminium tube with wat=
erproof tape can be slung under a hedge in the rain - the technology vsvs h=
igh snr is now available for peanuts as are the recorders.
