While the snapping up of the URL name by someone else is a bit
unfortunate, I would suggest that in today's world it is not as relevant
as it was in the beginning of the www. When was the last time you
actually typed in a URL of a generic term? Other than established brand
names, I don't think they are as important as they used to be. Prior to
search engines being as sophisticated as they are today, you had lists
or had to remember the URL (anyone remember those days?) These days
search engine rankings and results have nothing to do with your URL and
in fact we often shorten and change the link URL anyway. The URL could
be sndeco.com (short for sound ecology) and might be better in today's
world of 140 characters and be just as viable to a search engine. My
point is, the URL is not as valuable as the content, marketing, SEO that
goes behind the site.
