Greg, I think your missing=C2=A0the point here, or maybe I am. Ask yourself=
why you
record? I bet if Bernie=C2=A0and many others on this list answered that que=
stion it
certainly wouldn't have anything to
do with a business model but more along the lines of creating awareness of =
the
natural world=C2=A0in the general population that is paramount if we are to=
make
progress in preservation.
If Gordon=C2=A0Hemptons motivation to buy up these URL's was purely commerc=
ial from
what I see, he has gone against what he preaches in his book and film, give=
n the
work done by Bernie to help us understand the idea of Soundscape Ecology.
Certainly=C2=A0Gordon has to make a living, but at what cost? For me if tha=
t cost
interferes with my ethical position on where I stand on environmental issue=
s
then I am not going to do=C2=A0it, no matter how much money I stand to loos=
e. And
this is the case with Hempton, he has=C2=A0possibly put his business/artist=
ic
aspirations ahead of=C2=A0what he preaches when Bernie could make great NON=
commercial use of a domain like this by helping raise awareness not just wi=
thin
the public but also with environmental groups and even National Park staff=
=C2=A0who
need all the help they can get to stop the demise of the natural
world.=C2=A0=C2=A0Soundscape Ecology is not about $$ but could be a key too=
l saving
endangered wild places. So I don't see this topic as a business aspect of n=
ature
recording at all. If this list is all about only the technical side of natu=
re
recording then my apologies, I am on the wrong list. No I am not a capitali=
st
either but=C2=A0 a deep ecologist and I didnt invent anything that I know o=
f.
