Hand Held Microphone

Now that my xlr cable issue is resolved I have a question about recording w=
ith two mics in the field when not using a boundary array.
Do any of you actually hand hold the mics or use something like a pistol gr=
ip? I suppose small, light stage tripods would work but can become botherso=
me lugging around or when standing in the middle of a creekor on a hillside=
.

Also do any of you wrap your mic bodies in something so they stay somewhat =
scratch/ding free? And if yes what do you use?
