Sound Devices tech staff replied, in their typical speedy and professional way: "The USBPre 2 needs a supply of power that is regulated at 5 volts (Plus or minus 10%). The limiters do not have a linking option right now, but it might be possible with future firmware versions. " My followup thoughts-- So--that would seem to indicate that a 4x1.2 NiMH battery sled could drive it within spec. The power consumption is rated at 500 mah at 5 volts, so batteries would need to be able to supply on the order of 2.5-3 watts. Or go with a proven 12v outboard battery pack and a car USB adapter. And the limiter link could be a future option, perhaps using a DIP switch that is currently unassigned. |
