The SD 7xx always monitors the input, so you can be setting levels
any time. You don't hear the buffer, but when you have it set, the
instant you press record it reads 00:00:10.

There is not a record pause mode. It has been requested, might show
up in a later firmware version.

By the way, one thing not mentioned too often is that they regularly
do firmware upgrades - available free to owners. Recently they added
flac encoded recording, for example, and improved the firewire
performance.

Sound Devices has the BEST support of any manufacturer I have ever
experienced, bar none. Plus they are made in the USA. I love my 744T!
