This is a well documented problem with some headphones. The Sennheiser
CX300 earphones, despite having a good reputation from many users, sound
atrocious when used with Sony portable music devices. I tried them
myself and had to return them because of the high hiss level when using
them. I use Sony MDR-EX90 earphones and have no noise problems
whatsoever. The strange thing is that they are both 16 ohm impedance.
