I noticed this too. That's why in my test recordings last week (my
first outing with the unit), I parked the mic trim pots and the record
level pots at around 3 o'clock, just below this sudden increase. So now
I have this question: Can anyone here determine whether preamp noise
stays proportional to the gain across the entire range, or does it
increase in relation to gain at the top end of the range? That's beyond
my capabilities to decipher, but I'm thinking someone here can probably
do it rather easily.
