Conclusion:
I am moving to a smaller battery rather than a larger.
Note that the larger the battery the larger the drain when going to
recharge it from dead. Also, when you connect a external power supply
and turn the unit on, the attached battery will be charged at the same
time. A small battery lightens the recorder and makes it more compact.
Reasons:
The supplied battery (4,600 mAh)when fully drained and then connected
to a car outlet to operate and charge the unit, will give a low
voltage warning when the recorder is turned on. There is only so much
you can ask out of a hirose connector. Going to a larger battery yet
will pull down the supply voltage down further. Keeping the recorder
operational and recording is my priority one.
I use external batteries for long time recording and the internal only
for shorter term use. I also use the internal battery to maintain
recording during a hot swap of external batteries. With a smaller
battery attached to the back when I go to external power I have less
of a drain on the external battery. This is because the external
battery will be charging the attached battery if it is at all drained.
