There's a "big cheap battery" thread on the SD support forum - check
it out, it has all been said exhaustively there, including sources.
Register and frequesnt the forum, as there are firmware updates now
and then and they don't alway notify all users in my experience...
But great customer service otherwise!

I got a Sony and a cheap alternative L battery, both 6600 mAh, and
they work equally well, and give my 744 between 6 and 8 hours
recording, depending on the number of channels and lights on or off.
I think not problem, but check them out carefully - the first chinese
one I got had the terminal pull off right away, but I got a
replacement quickly.

It is kind of silly that the 7xx will not stand up with the larger
batteries - they could have put the battery in the center of the back
- but when I use the big batteries it is usually over the shoulder
anyway.

Never seen a silver one, though!
