Yes, I agree with you that the K6/ME66 is a fairly good microphone. My
own measurements also revealed that the Marantz PMD 670 and even the
PMD 660 are good enough for the K6/ME66:

There has always been a irrational paranoia regarding the preamplifier
noise issues...
But one should always keep in mind that it is also important to take
into account the sensitivity of the microphone when judging a certain
microphone/recorder combination:
