Hi Klas--

I couldn't find the specs on the
self-noise/sensitivity on the primo em-21's. Do
you have an hands-on estimate? The built-in
mics/circuit provided in the H4 seem to have low
Hz cut. Are you planning to defeat this or do you
consider the low cut filter necessary? As-is, I
could not hand-hold the H4 at high gain without
picking-up a lot of handling sounds. Try
"silently" adjusting the rec gain and you'll see
what I mean.

The H4 with <20dB(A)? self-noise built-in mics
seems like a good rig for call/survey
documentation. Such a rig is probably not going
to bring home "sparkling" recordings from natural
settings. Spec-wise, an H4 with internal mics is
probably on par with MD Recorder and a Sony
ECM957 mic. An H4 used with phantom-powered >
16dB(A) self-noise mics might be a good rig for
louder settings. Rob D.
