I record with an ambisonic 'soundfield' mic in the field and the
best option I found a year ago was the MOTU Traveler interface
and a laptop (Mac for firewire bus power).
This allows precise gain matching between channels to 0.1dB, and
the preamps are decent and usable without being stellar.
I believe there's a Deva recorder that allows similar adjustment.
