The first lesson most learn when switching from analog to digital is to be more precise in adding headroom. To totally avoid that 0dB spot on the meters. That there is no such thing as ok clipping. It does not, however, mean that analog vanished. The first stage of your recording system is still analog and too low a saturation still has the same problems there. It's just that too high has meaner results too. In the end the system you use that gets the best results with a single mono mic will also get the most consistent results when you use two mono mics in some stereo mic configuration. Plus, then you have only one set of new bad habits to learn ;-) Walt |
