The other option I had considered was the Sound Devices MixPre, mini field = mixer, which seems to be a replacement for the sadly discontinued MP-2. I = just found it to be a bit heavy and with more options than I probably need.= I expect it will be a much better sound match than the Sonosax and a bit = cheaper as well so I might go that route. I have tried an R-4 and was underwhelmed by the results. I've no doubt th= at the Oade mod helps quite a bit but its more about them lasting in the fi= eld. Too much plastic...just feels breakable. The Sound Devices are just= so solid and professional feeling. The Grace Design unit looks fantastic, I'll have to get a demo of it. Thanks for all your advice, I'll let you know what I end up with.
