In the only comparison test I've seen (electronic musician ""field
recorders") the FR2's pre was described as having the least pre
noise. The HD-P-2 pre specs with only 42.6 dB gain (okay for your
calls, very low for ambience if that's an interest). A power problem
is easy to address with an external battery pack. Good Luck! Rob D.
