Is that right? My understanding is that an omni 'mid' mic causes the=20
figure 8 to be the source of the stereo, so in effect, MS stereo with=20
an omni mid looks like XY at 180 degrees, two mics pointing away from=20
each other. The amount of the omni signal present varies the apparent=20
pattern between wide-cardiod, cardiod and super-cardiod, depending on=20
the ratio of mid to side. So it's not quite Blumlein, which in=20
effects is still gathering sound from four directions, even though=20
it's only stereo, right?
A very nice test. The AB certainly had the most depth. The MS tests=20
were nice, the cardiod version being the most uniform to my ears. I=20
would pick those two as the favorites.
