I haven't been following the discussion, lately, but for the most
comprehensive and concise coverage of stereo vs MS vs Blumlein vs
SASS vs ORTF vs binaural (if it hasn't already been suggested), get
hold of THE NEW STEREO SOUNDBOOK (2nd Edition), by Ron Streicher and
F. Aton Everest. Published by Audio Engineering Assoc., 1029 N.
Allen, Av., Pasadena, CA 91104. Telephone: 1-800-798-9127. There may
be a later edition. It's all there, folks.
Having recorded with every known pattern and system, MS provides, by
far, the most versitile and robust result for our purposes
(soundscape study and evaluation, number of applications from one
recording, media production and archiving). No other system comes
close in my opinion.
