Hi Mark
First be sure that your recorder and preamp really allow you to record
at those rates. In practice, very few devices have SN high enough to
warrent recording at 24/96. If you process the sound, it's perfectly
acceptable to "up-rez" to 24/96 or higher. This doesn't improve things
but allows dither if you are shaping the sound. There's no substitute
for a fast microprocessor with as much RAM as possible, a RAID array
(SATA is fine) for your media hard drive and a sound card that supports
ASIO2 for low latency response.
