Thanks John! It's odd, but the flexible units
I've found on several sites, so far, are
unavailable. The eBay link routes me to a flat
panel too. I bet with more hunting one could
locate a 20 watt 2 lb. roll-up design for
$220-$280. At 20 watts, I compute that one should
be able to collect enough juice on a bright day
to charge a 6000mah battery-- similar in size to
the largest Sony model for a 722. With two days
of sunlight, enough for my 10000 mah NiMH set for
8-10 hours on a 722. I like your idea using a
lead acid battery "bank" at home base and
charging various bats with the MaHa. The flat, ~
$700 panels seem to be capable of matching the
ease/performance of the plug-in rapid chargers
when the sun cooperates. Everything seems to be
set-up for 12 volt packs but one could assemble a
panel with voltage for charging a 15-18 volt
pack. Today, budget aside, carrying a half dozen
of the high capacity "L" LiONs with two of your
flexible solar units might be in my hiking
recordist 744 survival kit. Charge all day;
record all night. Rob D.
