You might get more gain with the HHB mic pre. An A/B test would tell you.

The FEL does seem to help dynamic mics going into a HiMD pre or
similar recorder for quieter locations because of their low output.
I should have tested this more thoroughly but the ones I had were too
noisy. For people with lower output condenser mics, the test movie
may be on Nick's server. Rob D
