Hi all
With those more experience you may be able to offer some advice on the
following. I have got my hands on some shure lav mics, namely WL183s,
WL85s, WL 93s which I hope to record on a Sony MZ N1 minidisk. I have
been following Rob instruction in wiring PIP shure mics through
minidisks. The local music man is trying to help but he has a little
busy. He still hasn't read the stuff I left with him 2 months ago. I'm
having some problems getting any sound using the PIP.
This is were I'm up to.
I got 2- Female 4 pin adapters. I have found pin 1 for ground. The
other pins ( 2,3,4) have solder connecting them. Looking down the jacks
of the mics, each one is wired that sound and power going to different
pins. . I can get a hum when I touch the touch the pins 2,3,4.
When the mic is not plugged into the 4 pin adapter I can get 2.3- 2.4
volts from the minidisk the female adapter how it drops to 1.7v as soon
as a mic ( testing with WL 93) is plugged in, then drops to 0v after a
couple of minutes. When I do have some power I can get 1.7v to the ground
and power ( black) wire of the mic.
I know the 93's are working because I found a music shop who was able
to test them but they are a 4 hour drive and I don't often get there. I
assume the drop of power is the reason I can not get any sound coming
through.
I have thought of using a 9 volt battery for power but unsure if power
from the battery and minidisk will be too much for the mic as they use
1.5- 10 volts.
As I'm a beginner I may not have explained things very well. Any helpful
suggestions appreciated
David
