Hi John;
Many bird species are in decline in the British Isles due to loss of habitat in
Britain and migration routes through Europe and Africa. A few successes are the
Red Kite, the Sea Eagle and the Honey Buzzard. Unfortunately, loss of
hedgerows and development in general have reduced habitat for passerines. You
were also visiting at the end of the breeding season for all passerines.

We were in Scotland this spring and I recorded more than fifty different
species May-June. Many of the songbirds would also have been found in
Oxfordshire. Due to increasing sea temperatures (Global Warming) sand eels have
been disappearing and coastal seabird colonies have been crashing for the last
two years.
