Re: tascam da-p1 vs. pre-amp

Since we last discussed the difference in
experiences with the DAP's pre, I came across
some more info. It seems the DAP1 has a unusual
preamp design which some people argue is not
well-suited for high gain recording. As I recall,
it has to do with the pad (attenuation) circuit
and some other stuff. The Oade brothers do a
modifcation to address this and there are other
sites with consistent opinions. On both of the
DAP1's I have access to, the use of a MP2
definitely lessens the noise over the built-in
pre when recording ambience with high gain in
quiet locations. I use very low noise mics
including mkh-20's. Rob D.
