At the time we were not recording but playing pass the headphones around
with a group of people. The MP2 makes more sense for that. The Portadisc
times out of record pause after a while.
I often use the MP2 ahead of the Portadisc with the SASS. That allows me
to set the Portadisc in it's ideal mid gain range, and also set the MP2
to it's mid range as well. The combo is slightly more gain than the
Portadisc pegged out, and cleaner. I'm keeping everything in it's sweet
range. This combo is very useful when I'm using the SASS on the high
tripod, where the mics are producing a very clean signal and the extra
gain allows deeper penetration of the surrounding area.
When I use the SASS hand held it's almost always with just the
Portadisc. That's generally fine as ground clutter would be a problem
with lots of gain. And it would also be very hard to keep it from
recording my breathing. Hard enough as is.
