Rob,

of course I know that a thunderstorm is not suited to test the preamps.
But the birdsongs would be more like it.
If I find some time over Easter, I will carry all my past and present gear into 
the woods and will give it a thorough comparison test.
That would be a Sony TCD-8 with SBM-1, Sharp MT190 with soundman A3 preamp and 
of course the Edirol R-4.
I will let you know what I found out.
