We have met the challenge Klas, the FEL 3.5 Series preamps:

20 dB of gain at extremely low noise.
Low Voltage, powered with plug in power from the recorder
Low current
Tiny size - mono verson built inside a XLR plug
No batteries, switches or knobs.
Will work with the Edirol R-1

Rob Danielson has a couple at the momment which he will be checking 
out in the next few weeks I believe.
