With a Sharp MD-MT90, I've recorded thunder (mic volume at L-8) and
Beethoven's 9th Symphony (L-3), and in neither case did the mic clip.
I expect a battery box will give more headroom, but I'd be sure to
wear earplugs in any place where you'd need it!
