Walt, I missed the mark again, and expressed myself poorly. I'm sorry.
No, I don't think that you're rich. Just that you have a better
recording kit than most of us can have. We all make choices. I'm
fortunate in being able to occasionally borrow very good microphones.
What I'm trying to say is that meaningful results can be achieved with
lesser gear, and the availability of good inexpensive microphones helps
towards that goal. You said that:
That kit took a long time to accumulate, and monitary sacrifice on my part.

I'm talking about the tone of this group. In a effort to do it cheap,
the full range of possible equipment quality is rarely if ever discussed
anymore. I'm hardly saying everybody has to go for the expensive high
end. What I'm saying is that it should be known and talked about in the
group just as well as the low end. A beginner coming into the group now
is generally presented with only the low part of the range.
Many of those beginners come in wanting to produce high quality nature
recording like they have found on CD's they bought. I think they should
know the sort of equipment that made those CD's. And, like it or not, a
large proportion of those CD's were made with high end equipment.

I passed on probably a dozen auctions over three years before getting
those MKH-20's. And probably only got them because they were put in the
wrong ebay category and had a misleading title. I was the only bidder
and consider myself darned lucky.
