Ryan,
forget about the vp88.
It's a great stereo mic for in the city but it's self noise is too high to
use in the country to record quiet ambiences.
The rode single point stereo mic has a great following,sorry can't remember
the model number at the moment. Don't forget about a windshield system,
rycote make a slip on fluffy cover for the rode that works ok.
Sorry can't coment on the minidisk as i use a  sony tcd d8 dat.....
