I have both the MZ-Nh1 and MZ-NH900. I recommend the MZ-NH900 even though
the MZ-NH1 is "top of the line". The 900 has an external 3 VDC connector
that can be used to power the recorder with a battery pack in the field or
you can at least use the AA cell battery holder that comes with it.
The audio quality is good. I use the Sony's SonicStage and WAV Convertion
Tool and then edit the .wav files with Audition 1.5.

Subject: [Nature Recordists] Wish to record nature sounds - need advice
please
Thanks in advance for your help.
I'm excited to get rid of the digital camcorder and focus on
recording the sounds of nature (jungle, waterfalls, ocean waves
etc.) when I go on my holidays. I'm new to this area so please
forgive my basic and naive questions.
I've been doing some research on microphones and digital recording
devices to buy and thought I should go with the following unless
someone could recommend a better solution.
RECORDING DEVICE --------------
- Sony MZ-NH1 or Sony MZNH900 (both are mini disc recorders that
have the ability to record in a linear PCM (un-compressed data)
format. (I like this option for both it's price and it's small
size.)
MICROPHONE --------------------
- Shure VP88 - Cardioid Stereo Condenser Microphone (to get the
true stereo effect, should I look at a different option i.e.
seperated left and right microphone?)
I would like to be able to capture sounds with a quality commonly
heard on nature CD's that are bought in the store.=20=20=20
Thanks again!

Loudspeakers are not birds,
A listening room is not nature."
