Hmmmm.... The perspectives were all over the place from near-field to
far-, Rob. I was using a new Schoeps MS pre-amp. The input plugs were
labled unclearly and in relatively small type. I had lost my glasses
and, so couldn't see very well and plugged the mic inputs into what
turned out to be a mono input. Hence, the result. Because of battery
limitations and DAT supply (I was gone for a month and recording
virtually every day over a wide range of sites at Gombe, Jane
Goodall's research station in Tanzania), I didn't record much
redundant stuff at the same locations at the same times of day/nite.
On the positive side and luckily, I had an associate with me whom I
was working with (from Harvard) who did know what the hell she was
doing and who did capture some great chimp and forest material. Since
we had the same mic and DAT systems (she had a different preamp) the
moment was partially saved with her great material. So not all is
lost.
