Long time reader first time poster....
I am ready to buy a Marantz PMD 670 but I have a couple concerns about wiri=
ng.
I have been using an MZR50 minidisc recorder for six years of field recordi=
ng and it has
finally died. I am eager to go to a CF based workflow and the Marantz seem=
s the clear
choice.
However -- since I will no longer have a 1/8" input what is my best bet for=
getting my
binaurals plugged into the Marantz? I have a preamp already so I can get t=
he signal to line
level that way if I want, but my hope is that there is a way that I can get=
an adapter that is
light and small that will take my 1/8" male stereo mic output on one end an=
d go to stereo
XLRs on the other end (preferably with right angle connectors.) Coupled wi=
th this hope is
the additional hope that the Marantz has the proper kind of mic preamp to a=
llow me to
skip using my curent one (to make for a smaller package, and hopefully a be=
tter sounding
pre.)
Failing this the only thing that I can see doing is using my preamp and get=
ting a female 1/
8" to stereo RCA and going into the Marantz through the line level inputs. =
This seems less
than ideal in several ways, however: bulky, fiddley and depending on my cra=
ppy (and
homemade) preamp box.
Any help from the beneficient recordists? Thanks in advance,
robb
