Hi Robb,
One gotcha to look out for here is that the Marantz almost certainly does
not provide the "plug-in power" voltage you want for your binaurals --
which is not the same as phantom power for condensors. It is AFAIK always
labeled "plug-in power" at the mic input.
All the binaurals I know of expect it; the MZ-R50 provides it; if you have
an outboard pre from Core Sound, Sound Professionals, Sonic Studios,
Microphone Madness, etc., they are almost certainly also providing this
power. The one exception I know of is the Core Sound HEBs using the DPA
406x capsules, which have AFAIK yet-again different power (neither phantom
nor plug-in).
Core and SP and SS and MP make battery boxes to power their mics that are
not pres -- this might be what you need, but it's another box to carry...
