Well, fellas and gals, on a National Park Service/Nez Perc=E9 mission,
a week from Tuesday, September 9th, we'll be heading north following
the route of the 1877 Nez Perc=E9 (Chief Joseph) 1700 mile (2700km)
flight from 5 American armies whom they out-ran, out-fought and from
whom they nearly escaped. It begins in NE Oregon (Lake Wallowa),
follows the Lolo Trail across Idaho into Montana, down the Bitteroot
Valley, across central Yellowstone Nat. Park to just north of Cody,
Wyoming then north, again, into Montana to within 40 miles of the
Canadian border at the Bear Paw Mountains where they were ambushed
and finally captured just short of freedom and help from Sitting
Bull, who had escaped to Canada after defeating Custer the year
before. Among the wolves, coyotes, grizzlies, and elk we hope to
record, we'll probably be hitting some wetlands along the way and
hope to record some lite biophonies/geophonies wherever we can and if
the weather permits. Mostly, however, we'll be concentrating on the
Yellowstone region recording Nez Perc=E9 oral histories and ambience
for a series of interpretative centers the NPS and consolidated
tribes are installing along the route of the march.

Given the turf, anybody need anything special?

BTW, Doug, if there's any way you can take me off the list
temporarily between the 9th and the 25th of September, that would be
great. We'll be mostly camping and not on line.
Thanks.

Bernie
