There are 3 hour DAT's @ $2 each.

Don't fret that its not an audio DAT, same cassette, supposedly 
better tape. I 've run many thru my Sony D7 and D8. The tape is 
thinner but they work fine. Last time I looked, one can get a D7 for 
about $200-250 on eBay.
