Note that there are 80 minute minidiscs. If you were willing to tolerate 
the audio quality of a hi8 then you might be happy with using LP on a 
minidisc. That's 160 or 320 minutes. The 160 is about FM radio quality, 
320 more like AM radio.

You are probably into trying to get one of the HD recorders to work. 
It's going to take a fair amount of battery to keep them going for very 
many hours.

You might want to check out marantz's offering, I'm not sure just how 
long it will record, but it is a removable cartridge. And it's a 
portable recorder, designed for the job.

And HHb has some new recorders in the pipeline. Sounds like they will be 
very expensive. But should have enough HD capacity.
