"I have been surprised at the lack of young Mynas around and had come
to the conclusion that the breeding season had been poor. This does
not seem to have been the case for the Starling. I had noticed though
the continual flights between suburbs and paddocks and for the first time
today I have had young begging birds in the garden. From this I
conclude that either the Mynas have bred late this year or all but the final
clutches have failed. Does anyone else have observations to confirm
this?"

I activated
a trap in mid Novemver and caught 8 MYNAs by the end of December. In the
last 5 days I have trapeed 25 (in groups of 7,7,6 and 5),. All these
birds have been taken to the RSPCA for processing. While most of these are
probably?? young birds there have been some older adults among
them.
I am unable to comment on whether there was a late
breeding season but it is clear from the pattern above that the Mynas have
been moving in some nomadic process in the last week or
so. Based on observations this morning there are at least
4 Mynas remaining at the Illoura horse paddocks, one of the two
principal feeding nodes in the Lyons-Curtin area-the other being dog/cat
food in people's yards..
i think the breeding season for Mynas,
whenever that was, has been quite reasonable-at least in his area.
It will be interesting to see whether the trapping pattern is as intense in
the next week as it has been in the last week.
Mynas are
still around, but the pattern is obviously resource
dependent.
