There are responsible shooters and irresponsible shooters, and I imagine the 
former far outnumber the latter or they'd all havel lost their guns long ago.  
However, a single irresponsible shooter can do enough damage to make up for 
their low numbers.

We've all seen shot up road signs, I've even seen a toilet block riddled with 
bullet holes and its downpipes all shot away.  This whole issue is about trust, 
and such sights don't inspire much of it.

This is a huge generalisation and can't possibly be true.  A lot of shooters 
never shoot anything other than inanimate targets.  They also aren't all 
loonies that shoot anything which moves.  That's a funny joke in South Park but 
not true in reality.
