One of the milk companies here in Tasmania has introduced bottle cap
rings that break as you open them, too. Mostly at the instigation of
a young teenage activist!

The bottle caps they have here automatically tear when you open them, preventing anything like this from happening. The ring ends up attached asa tail, not a loop, to the cap.I wonder how difficult it would be to regulate for such a design in Oz? It's probably not difficult if the design already exists. There may be patent fees to pay, but I'm sure the designers would be very amenable tonegotiation. -----Original Message----- From: On Behalf Of Rob Geraghty Sent: Wednesday, 19 November 2008 9:27 AM To: Birding Aus Subject: RE: [Birding-Aus] Bird with Red bottletop around beak/head identified --- On Wed, 11/19/08, Kurtis Lindsay <> wrote:What a lucky bird to have survived this long! It's a sad fact that many Bowerbirds especially Satin and Great Bowerbirds perish from getting plastic caught around their heads or necks. And it could be easily prevented in the case of Satin Bowerbirds simply by avoiding shades of blue that they're attracted to. Do Great Bowerbirds haveparticular colour preferences? I've only seen Satin Bowerbird bowers.
