Hunter Boundaries

Hi all,

It may be becoming a bit tiresome to some, however on my final email on this
topic, it appears that there is some controversy over the actual boundaries
of the Hunter Region.

I note that the HBOC boundaries for the 'Hunter Region' extend well away
from what the general public could consider the Hunter Region, i.e. over
the Great Divide into areas like Cassilis etc and areas that consitute the
boundaries of the the new Liverpool Plains Council, and the Liverpool Plains
Catchment. To the north, the HBOC area extends well into the Mid-north Coast,
and the Manning Catchment.

Alan Stuart mentioned that: "The boundaries of the Hunter Region match those
used by NSW Tourism, and similar agencies."

I'd like to point out that according to the NSW Tourism website, the map
for the Hunter does include areas west, however, the coastal region extending
north is far smaller than HBOC definition of the Hunter Region. In addition,
the Bureau of Metorology website
(http://www.bom.gov.au/weather/nsw/dist_map.shtml)
puts the boundary of the Hunter Region just north of Port Stephens.

So, in essence the boundaries of the Hunter Region, as defined by the HBOC,
differ from two major organisations. May be it is time to reshape/readjust
the birding boundaries so that they are in accordance with Federal and State
Agencies and recent changes in the Local Government Boundaries.

(HBOC - you can't have all of the land! - tongue in cheek!)

Regards

Peter
