G'day birders,
great to see some records of this rare bird, however
while doing a web search on this beastie I found this very disturbing
site http://www.birdworld.com.au/catalogue/quail.html
"This is a list of quail available at birdworld. Many of these
species/varieties are constantly on hand. Others are available on
request.
VARIETY
Brown Quail $40.00/pair
King Quail (normal) $20.00/pair
King Quail (silver) $25.00/pair
Stubble Quail $40.00/pair
Chestnut Backed Button Quail POA
Red-backed Button Quail POA
Black-breasted Button Quail $200.00/pair
Buff-breasted Button Quail POA
Red-chested Button Quail POA
Painted Button Quail $150.00/pair
Little Button Quail $100.00/pair "
Now I'm not against keeping birds in cages (did so myself for years) and
can see the value in captive breeding for endangered species but this is
rather amazing. Does anyone on the list know if there is any
Buff-breasted BQ in captivity, do they breed? is trapping a threat to
them?
Maybe this is just a very optimistic retail list?
Cheers
