Some Victorian information for ferrets.

Have just examined the current records for the distribution of the exotic
ferret and have the following observations
- there are currently 22 records of the species submitted to the Atlas of
Victorian Wildlife
- 8 of these records are roadkills
- the oldest record is from 1972
- the most recent record is 2000
- the maximum no. of animals observed for all these records is one.
- areas where they have been recorded include: Bendigo, Anakie,
Healesville, South Gippsland. A number of records appear to be from
Melbourne fringes

Comment:
The available data do not support the contention that there is currently a
free ranging population of ferrets anywhere in Victoria.

cheers,
