I have encountered one something like that about 5 years ago, at Batemans Bay (SE NSW). As well as reduced melanin, although I don't recall that it was white on top, the pink was different too. The normally pink parts were a quite pretty apricot colour. I really can't explain that.

Subject: [BIRDING-AUS] Unusual Galah

Hi All,

Sunday morning (7/12/03) about 9am there was a group of about 20 Galahs feeding on the south side of the Midland Highway about 5km East of Shepparton, Victoria. Included in the group was a Galah with white wings and tail and all parts that are normally grey - it had no grey at all.  Its white cap was also a bit whiter (cleaner?) than the others but the pink appeared to be the same colour and amount.

I was there again this morning but saw no Galahs.

Barry
