Ok, maybe I did inadvertently gloss over Frank's comment about assessing on
a case by case basis. He has mailed me privately since then but made no
mention of this. As you say, he can speak for himself well enough.
Ok, yes, I accept road kills as an unfortunate source of specimens. Apart
from the behaviour of perhaps a few undesirables on our roads, these are
usually at least accidental. Certainly abhorrent, but not done on purpose
like a shooting.
And yes, I know about being able to ask for a viewing at museums, just
raising the point that they are so strapped for funds that some ashamedly no
longer have curators of birds or any displays - dioramas, is , I believe the
term. Instead, our beautiful birds are hidden away in musty drawers.
What ? Me use strong words ? It's about time someone did.
Mention Tahiti Petrel once more and you're blocked Andrew. I'll get to see
one some day, but please don't shoot me one.
