Mauro,
I believe that all State wildlife authorities require you to hold a permit
to collect feathers, so it is best not broadcast this fact. In most cases,
feathers are colleced innocently as you describe but it is generally
impossible to prove. Generally State wildlife authorities' permits also
prohibit importation of feathers etc. from one state to another. I have
never lived in SA so don't know their rules. However as you have now exposed
yourself, I recommend that you find out the legal requirements, so that you
can protect yourself from possible prosecution. I have such a permit in the
ACT as I have always done the same.
