Tony,
I've had one other supporting my contention: Darryl McKay from Bankstown,
NSW.
I thought I had detected a Melbourne-based bias in the interest shown on the
BIRDING-AUS mail, and I guess that includes SA with your common interest in
your other strange and unusual aerial pursuits.
I suspect the correlation with the relative rarity of birders and twitchers in Sydney is
that most Sydneysiders consider that they've got a real life.
